I’m a late bloomer.
In my 30s, I started to get out there. I learned to ski and hiked in the mountains and travelled around the US and world and finally connected with the natural world. And then I learned to scuba dive and that was a game changer. It was as if photographing the tiniest creatures and most psychedelic seascapes gave me a new pair of eyes after I returned to land.
In 2010, I went on my first safari in Southern Africa. It was such a privilege to be immersed in the bush for hours, watching the behavior of wild creatures. And the dry sage and warm, musky air got under my skin.
In 2015, I checked off a bucket list journey to Cuba. It was there that I discovered the freedom of street photography and the challenge of capturing little stories about a person and a place in one frame.
So I had to leave home in order to fully appreciate this journey. And I am so grateful for the walkabout that is my life.
